OpenAI claims to be creating an AI-powered hiring platform to link companies and workers, a service that would place the company directly against LinkedIn. According to an OpenAI representative who spoke to TechCrunch, the business plans to offer the service by the middle of 2026. The product is named the OpenAI Jobs Platform.
The startup will "use AI to help find the perfect matches between what companies need and what workers can offer," according to a blog post published Thursday by Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI. According to Simo, the service would provide a specific pathway for local governments and small enterprises to connect with the best AI talent.
Beyond its primary consumer product, ChatGPT, OpenAI is interested in entering a number of additional areas. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated during a recent dinner with reporters that Simo would be in charge of other apps in addition to the chatbot. The OpenAI Jobs Platform and possibly additional products that OpenAI is allegedly developing, such a browser and a social media app, will presumably be part of this.
Notably, one of OpenAI's original investors, Reid Hoffman, co-founded LinkedIn, which might directly compete with the company due to its hiring platform. Microsoft, the biggest financial supporter of OpenAI, also owns LinkedIn.
Additionally, OpenAI claims that through its OpenAI Academy, an online school it introduced last year, it would begin to give certifications for individuals with varying degrees of "AI fluency." According to a representative for OpenAI, the business intends to begin a pilot program for OpenAI Certifications in late 2025.
